Hey, I’m Layla!
Growing up, I was constantly on the other side of the lens. My mother was a portrait photographer, and being her subject gave me an early appreciation for the art form. It felt natural to eventually pick up a camera myself, and for a long time, I followed in her footsteps with portraiture. I truly loved the connections I made and the people I met along the way.
However, my professional life outside of photography began to weigh on that creative spark. Working in mental health with active duty military personnel is extremely rewarding, but often leaves me feeling socially burnt out and in need of solitude.
My love for photography was reignited when my husband, an avid outdoorsman, encouraged me to bring my camera along on his trips. Shifting my focus from people to wildlife changed everything. Out there, I fell in love with the adventure and the silence. Wildlife photography allows me to reconnect with a natural world we are often too far removed from, finding peace and excitement in the untamed moments.
My vision with Wanderbeat Photography is to share these wild experiences with you. Whether it’s through a story on my socials or a print hanging on your wall, I hope to bring a piece of the outdoors into your home. Ultimately, I want my work to serve as a reminder of the incredible world waiting just outside our doors - and why it is so deeply worth protecting.
